Progress on Zone 3 - Lots of New Enemies, Spell System Rework, and a Zone Secret!

So it's been close to a month since the last update, so it's time to post an update on what's new! The title of the new zone is The Celestial Caverns, and I've even finished the music for the hub world! It turned out to be quite an epic piece, and you can listen to it here: https://soundcloud.com/bynary-fission/the-celestial-caverns-tower-of-the-immorta...

---------------

The quality of artwork and animation has gotten a noticeable bump since work began on Zone 3. This has raised the bar for everything else that is in the game, to the point where I'll probably need to make some improvements to old artwork as well! This has made progress on making new enemies slower, but for good reason.

The first new enemy is the Crystal Golem, which has a shockwave-based stun attack in addition to a dangerous arsenal of physical attacks!

The next enemy is the Ocular Sentinel, which keeps its distance while never taking its eye off of you!

Next, there's the Enchanted Wand. This enemy casts a number of dangerous spells at you from a distance, so don't let this enemy stick around for long!

The fourth enemy is Navi the Empyreal Visage. Like the Ocular Sentinel, it keeps its distance from you - but don't turn your back to him!

And last, there's the Lavasaur. This dinosaur moves real fast and has a dangerous leap attack. He also leaves a trail of fire behind him, so you can't let him run too much!

-------------
All of these enemies are complete with both animations and their AI. As of now, 5/12 of the new stages are complete, and the sixth stage is being worked on now. This new foe will be the zone miniboss, and he is easily the most complex sprite I've made so far - this will take some time to make! I have also included a special secret area in Zone 3, which is only accessible if you find some hidden things throughout. I don't tell you about what that thing is, though - you'll need to discover that for yourself!

I will reveal more details about an overhaul of the game's spell system soon, and I think that this change will greatly improve your experience as well as replayability. My intention is to do away with spell scrolls altogether, and instead give each race a pool of spells you can learn as you progress through the game. These spells can all be upgraded multiple times, and there will be more than one way to get these upgrades.

I'll post more updates soon on some of the additional changes coming to this zone - there are even more exciting things coming down the pipeline!

This game rules, and I love the dinosaurs and the eye dude.

Thanks! The dinosaur got a surprising amount of positive feedback, so I'll keep that in mind when designing future enemies. ;)
