v0.30 Update: New Mechanics - Roll Dodge, Ranged Attacks, and Stamina
The release of the v0.30 patch is imminent. I've finished two full playthroughs of the demo and fixed innumerable bugs with the new content, but also a handful that are present in the current build as well. The remaining items on my list are nearly whittled down, and once they're done the full build will be published.
I've already discussed the total overhaul to the spell system as well as the revamping of the feat system in previous logs. As part of this new build, I'm also introducing two new mechanics into the game - ranged weapons and a roll dodge! These have both been requested by many playtesters, and I'm happy to include these going forward.
Ranged weapons function differently from your melee weapon in that they always deal a fixed amount of damage each time. You can buy them in stacks of up to 99, and they'll be available in the first zone. I made a short video that showcases how they work here:
The roll dodge is something that you can perform immediately after making your character. This along with ranged weapons are two new controls that you can map to your keyboard/controller. The roll dodge is great for avoiding traps and dangers, and I've made a few updates to existing levels to encourage the use of this mechanic. You can get a quick preview of it here:Finally, I'm introducing Stamina into the game. The reason for this is because up to this point, you could run forever with no penalties. This means that there is absolutely no reason not to keep running forever everywhere, and this makes dodging projectiles easier than it should be.With this mechanic, you'll now have to think about when you run and use roll dodges. Stamina replenishes on its own and can be increased with one of the new Feats, as well as manipulated in a few other ways.

I'm aiming for a release within a week at most for the new patch. I've eaten my words on schedules before, but now that nearly every glaring issue has been ironed out I think I'm ready to commit to a target for release.
